How to benefit the most from the last 10 days of Ramadan
Some simple points to do for maximize benefit of the last Ashra of Ramadan
Throughout the blessed month of Ramadan we should be aiming to excel in spirituality. But during the last 10 it should become like an end of a race, where you exert your maximum energy and sprint to the finish line. Here are some points we can work on to improve our spirituality.
- Clear your schedule.
Even if you don't plan on sitting for I'tikaf (secluded worship), clear your schedule to maximize on your Ibadah. It is narrated regarding the Holy Prophet (saw):
Allah's Messenger used to exert himself in devotion during the last ten nights to a greater extent than at any other time." (Muslim).
Cut down on distractions, don't try to do more than just the minimum of work (maintaining the house, cooking, etc...) so that you maximize your time for Dhikr and Ibadah.
Bring a true change in yourself during these 10 days (you have 355 days in the year to deep clean your kitchen or read that novel). Don't let these days go to waste
- Sit I'tikaf
If you can take a few day off from work, plan sitting for I'tikaf in the mosque. If you are a woman, you also have the option of sitting I'tikaf at home.
Aishah (ra) reported that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) used to perform i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. (Bukhari and Muslim)
- Ask for Allahs forgiveness
Keep on reciting the prayer taught by the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).
"Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee" (Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi).
O Allah, You are pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.
Don't just ask for this worldly blessings or material gains. First ask forgiveness for yourself, because having a clean slate is truly the biggest blessing of all. The abovementioned prayer is taught by the Holy Prophet (saw) especially for the last 10 days of Ramadan.
- Recite the Quran
Recite and ponder about it's meaning. Try to finish the Quran by the end of this blessed month. Even if you have slack off in the previous days of Ramadan and fell behind in reciting one part everyday (to finish it before the end of the month), make extra effort to recite the Holy Quran in this last ashra, which is full of blessings.
- Give Sadqa/Zakaat
Give a little bit into charity everyday. If your giving falls on the night of decree (Laylat-ul-Qadr) it will be as if you have been giving charity for 83 years.
May Allah bless these days for all of us and enable us to gain His nearness. Aameen.
